Turley Wine Cellars

June

Born out of a passion for nurturing neglected vines, Turley Wine Cellars reminds us that there is value, beauty, and true quality in preservation—and that one must always respect one’s elders.

What started nearly 30 years ago as a passion project has grown its own roots in the California wine community, gaining a reputation for unique and expressive wines. Today, Turley produces wines from more than 50 California vineyards, with some vines dating back to the late 1800s (making them some of the oldest in the state). Known primarily for their Zinfandel and Petite Syrah, Turley’s vineyards can be found in Amador County, Napa Valley, Paso Robles, Mendocino, and more. There is no substitute for Turley’s ability to craft unique expressions of single vineyards from older vines.

Led by emergency room physician turned vineyard owner Larry Turley, Turley Wine Cellars has been restoring old vines throughout California’s Wine Country since 1993. Rather than replacing them with new and younger vines like so many others do, Turley embraces their age, letting their storied life add a complex depth of character that’s lacking in younger vines. With roots as long as 40 feet, these older vines have a legitimate grasp on the soil in which they’re grown. Dry-farmed, these vines survive on natural rainfall, allowing for eco-friendly production.
